Polytoca macrophylla merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Maluku hingga Papuasia. Di Indonesia tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan nama kumkum (Ternate). Nama ilmiah Polytoca macrophylla diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama George Bentham pada tahun 1881.
