Populus alba merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Salicaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Eropa tengah dan selatan hingga Xinjiang dan Himalaya barat. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan white poplar. Nama ilmiah Populus alba pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carolus Linnaeus dalam Species Plantarum tahun 1753.
