Prunus barbata merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Rosaceae (suku mawar-mawaran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis di wilayah Meksiko (Michoacán, Guerrero, Chiapas). Nama ilmiah Prunus barbata diperkenalkan oleh Bernhard Adalbert Emil Koehne pada tahun 1915.
