Pterocarpus santalinus merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di wilayah India selatan. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan red sandalwood. Nama ilmiah Pterocarpus santalinus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carl Linnaeus the Younger pada tahun 1782.
