Pterygota excelsa merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Malvaceae (suku kapas-kapasan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah di wilayah Amerika tengah. Nama ilmiah Pterygota excelsa pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Paul Carpenter Standley pada tahun 1961.
