Punica protopunica merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Lythraceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering di wilayah Socotra. Nama ilmiah Punica protopunica diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Isaac Bayley Balfour pada tahun 1882.
