Pyracantha coccinea merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Rosaceae (suku mawar-mawaran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Eropa selatan dan selatan-tengah hingga Iran. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan scarlet firethorn. Nama ilmiah Pyracantha coccinea diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Max Joseph Roemer pada tahun 1847.
