Quercus robur merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Fagaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Eropa hingga Iran. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan pedunculate oak atau english oak. Nama ilmiah Quercus robur pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carolus Linnaeus dalam Species Plantarum tahun 1753.
