Rhaponticum altaicum merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Rumania hingga Siberia barat dan Türkiye. Nama ilmiah Rhaponticum altaicum diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Friedrich Ernst Ludwig von Fischer pada tahun 1959.
