Rhaponticum coniferum merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis di wilayah Mediterania barat dan tengah. Nama ilmiah Rhaponticum coniferum diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Werner Rodolfo Greuter pada tahun 2003.
