Rhaponticum pygmaeum merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis di wilayah Mediterania timur. Nama ilmiah Rhaponticum pygmaeum diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Augustin Pyramus de Candolle pada tahun 1838.
