Ribes cynosbati merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Grossulariaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Kanada bagian timur hingga Amerika Serikat bagian utara-tengah dan timur. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan eastern prickly gooseberry. Nama ilmiah Ribes cynosbati pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carolus Linnaeus dalam Species Plantarum tahun 1753.
