Ribes speciosum merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Grossulariaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari California hingga Meksiko (Baja California Norte). Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan fuchsiaflower gooseberry. Nama ilmiah Ribes speciosum pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Frederick Traugott Pursh pada tahun 1813.
