Rottboellia striata merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Himalaya tengah hingga China (selatan dan Yunnan barat daya) dan Indo-China. Nama ilmiah Rottboellia striata pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck pada tahun 1854.
