Ruellia asperula merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Acanthaceae (suku jeruju-jerujuan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah di wilayah Brazil timur. Nama ilmiah Ruellia asperula diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius pada tahun 1895.
