Ruellia hygrophila merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Acanthaceae (suku jeruju-jerujuan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Bolivia hingga Brazil barat-tengah dan Argentina bagian utara. Nama ilmiah Ruellia hygrophila diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius pada tahun 1841.
