Saccharum spontaneum subsp. aegyptiacum merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk rimpang atau stolon. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Sicilia, Afrika, hingga Suriah. Nama ilmiah Saccharum spontaneum subsp. aegyptiacum pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carl Ludwig von Willdenow pada tahun 1889.
