Schmidtia pappophoroides merupakan tumbuhan semusim atau menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Sahara, Socotra, Afrika Selatan, hingga Pakistan. Nama ilmiah Schmidtia pappophoroides pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel pada tahun 1852.
