Scleria hirtella merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Cyperaceae (suku teki-tekian). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di kawasan tropis dan subtropis Amerika . Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan riverswamp nutrush. Nama ilmiah Scleria hirtella diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Olof Peter Swartz pada tahun 1788.
