Scleria melanotricha merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Cyperaceae (suku teki-tekian). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di kawasan tropis Afrika. Nama ilmiah Scleria melanotricha diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Christian Ferdinand Friedrich Hochstetter pada tahun 1850.
