Setaria gausa merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Queensland utara dan timur hingga New South Wales timur laut. Nama ilmiah Setaria gausa diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Stanley Thatcher Blake pada tahun 1995.
