Shepherdia canadensis merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Elaeagnaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari anak benua India, China (Yunnan dan Guizhou), hingga Indo-China. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan russet buffaloberry. Nama ilmiah Shepherdia canadensis pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Thomas Nuttall pada tahun 1818.
