Silene aegyptiaca merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Caryophyllaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Mediterania timur hingga Iran utara-tengah. Nama ilmiah Silene aegyptiaca diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Linnaeus the Younger pada tahun 1782.
