Snowdenia polystachya merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di kawasan tropis Afrika bagian timur dan timur laut, Jazirah Arab. Nama ilmiah Snowdenia polystachya pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Johann Baptist Georg Wolfgang Fresenius pada tahun 1938.
