Sonchus malayanus merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari Jawa. Nama ilmiah Sonchus malayanus diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel pada tahun 1856.
