Sonchus melanolepis adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari wilayah sepanjang Eritrea, Ethiopia, hingga Yaman barat. Nama ilmiah Sonchus melanolepis diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Johann Baptist Georg Wolfgang Fresenius pada tahun 1839.
