Sorghastrum stipoides merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk rimpang atau stolon. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari kawasan tropis Afrika dan Afrika Selatan. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan needle indiangrass. Nama ilmiah Sorghastrum stipoides pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carl Sigismund Kunth pada tahun 1912.
