Sphaerothylax algiformis merupakan tumbuhan air (hidrofit) dari famili Podostemaceae yang hidup menahun. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Tanzania bagian barat hingga Provinsi Cape timur. Nama ilmiah Sphaerothylax algiformis pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Gottlieb Wilhelm T.G. Bischoff pada tahun 1844.
