Sporobolus clandestinus merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang di wilayah Amerika Serikat bagian tengah dan timur. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan rough dropseed. Nama ilmiah Sporobolus clandestinus diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Johann Friedrich Theodor Biehler pada tahun 1908.
