Stevia rebaudiana merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Nama ilmiah Stevia rebaudiana diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama William Botting Hemsley pada tahun 1906. Nama spesies ini merupakan sinonim dari Stevia rebaudiana.
