Stevia seemannii merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko hingga Guatemala. Nama ilmiah Stevia seemannii diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Heinrich "Bipontinus" Schultz pada tahun 1856.
