Stevia vernicosa merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari Meksiko tengah dan barat daya. Nama ilmiah Stevia vernicosa diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Jesse More Greenman pada tahun 1904.
