Symplocos tinctoria merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Symplocaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang di wilayah Amerika Serikat bagian tengah dan tenggara. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan common sweetleaf. Nama ilmiah Symplocos tinctoria diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Charles Louis L'Héritier de Brutelle pada tahun 1791.
