Rumput merak adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan semusim atau menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan yang dikenal dengan nama ilmiah Themeda arguens ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Sri Lanka hingga Australia utara. Nama ilmiah Themeda arguens pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Eduard Hackel pada tahun 1889.
