Ginje merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Apocynaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah. Nama ilmiah Thevetia peruviana pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Christiaan Hendrik Persoon pada tahun 1895.
