Tridax purpurea merupakan tumbuhan perdu kecil dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko (Oaxaca, Chiapas), hingga Guatemala. Nama ilmiah Tridax purpurea pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Sidney Fay Blake pada tahun 1937.
