Tsuga heterophylla merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Pinaceae (suku pinus-pinusan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Alaska selatan hingga California utara. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan western hemlock. Nama ilmiah Tsuga heterophylla pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Constantine Samuel Rafinesque pada tahun 1898.
