Vicia altissima merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang di wilayah Mediterania barat dan tengah. Nama ilmiah Vicia altissima pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis René Louiche Desfontaines pada tahun 1799.
