Lidah buaya adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan sukulen dari famili Asphodelaceae yang tumbuh menahun. Tumbuhan yang dikenal dengan nama ilmiah Aloe vera ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering di wilayah Oman utara (Pegunungan Hajar). Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan aloe atau medicinal aloe. Nama ilmiah Aloe vera diperkenalkan oleh Nicolaas Laurens Burman pada tahun 1768.
