Iler merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Lamiaceae (suku nilam-nilaman). Nama ilmiah Coleus atropurpureus diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama George Bentham pada tahun 1830. Nama spesies ini merupakan sinonim dari Coleus scutellarioides.
