Urang aring merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Nama ilmiah Eclipta alba diperkenalkan oleh Justus Carl Hasskarl pada tahun 1848. Nama ini merupakan sinonim dari Eclipta prostrata.
