Cocok botol adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan semusim dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan yang dikenal dengan nama ilmiah Tagetes erecta ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko hingga Guatemala. Cocok botol juga dikenal dengan sebutan lain yaitu tahi kotok. Nama ilmiah Tagetes erecta diperkenalkan oleh Carolus Linnaeus pada tahun 1753.
