Achyropsis laniceps merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Amaranthaceae (suku bayam-bayaman). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Tanzania hingga kawasan tropis Afrika bagian selatan. Nama ilmiah Achyropsis laniceps diperkenalkan oleh Charles Baron Clarke pada tahun 1909.
