Eleocharis vivipara merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Cyperaceae (suku teki-tekian). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Amerika Serikat bagian tenggara hingga Texas. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan viviparous spikerush. Nama ilmiah Eleocharis vivipara diperkenalkan oleh Johann Heinrich Friedrich Link pada tahun 1827.
