Gomphrena celosioides merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu kecil dari famili Amaranthaceae (suku bayam-bayaman) yang memiliki siklus hidup semusim (annual). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Ekuador hingga Argentina bagian utara. Nama ilmiah Gomphrena celosioides diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius pada tahun 1826.
