Gomphrena spissa merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Amaranthaceae (suku bayam-bayaman). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering di wilayah Bolivia. Nama ilmiah Gomphrena spissa diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Troels Myndel Pedersen pada tahun 1997.
