Gomphrena tomentosa merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Amaranthaceae (suku bayam-bayaman). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Bolivia hingga Argentina bagian utara. Nama ilmiah Gomphrena tomentosa pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis August Heinrich Rudolf Grisebach pada tahun 1920.
