Gomphrena vaga merupakan tumbuhan perdu dari famili Amaranthaceae (suku bayam-bayaman). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan tumbuh memanjat. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Peru hingga Brazil dan Argentina barat laut. Nama ilmiah Gomphrena vaga pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius pada tahun 1826.
