Hydrocotyle leucocephala merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Araliaceae (suku mangkok-mangkokan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko selatan, kawasan tropis Amerika, hingga Pulau Gough. Nama ilmiah Hydrocotyle leucocephala pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Adelbert von Chamisso pada tahun 1826.
