Hyptis coccinea merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Lamiaceae (suku nilam-nilaman). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di wilayah Brazil timur laut. Nama ilmiah Hyptis coccinea diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius pada tahun 1833.
